Many visitors to Pulaski
County are happy to spend their days enjoying the various
recreational assets of Lake Cumberland while others may
prefer to explore the area and visit other nearby
attractions. Below are a few suggested itineraries, some
are within Pulaski County while several are located in
adjoining counties:

Just north of Somerset on US
27 you can experience a day of fun-filled water adventures
at SomerSplash, Somerset’s new water park or you can
head south on US 27 to Somerset Falls Family Park for a
round of Miniature Golf. Another fun stop down 27 would be
Finley’s Fun Center which features an arcade &
roller skating.

For those interested in Agri-tourism
venture out East of Somerset to Cedar Creek Vineyards or
Sinking Valley Winery for a tour and a tasting of the wine
varieties they make. Head West on US 80 for a trip to
Haney’s Appledale Farm in Nancy where you can pick your
own apples in season and treat yourself to a delicious
fried apple pie. Also in the Nancy area take the kids to
Bear Wallow Farm for their Autumnfest, Sept. 15 – Oct;
children love the corn maze and pumpkin chunkin’
machine.

A popular excursion for Lake
Cumberland visitors is a trip to Wolf Creek Dam and the
Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery in nearby Jamestown, KY.
You can tour The Fish Hatchery and take a fun &
engaging educational journey through the new Visitor
Center.

ARTS
& CULTURE
|
|
Art enthusiasts should start
your tour in downtown Somerset by checking out the art
exhibits & special events at Brandywine Studios.
Then
pay a visit to Riverstone at the Vortex and check out the
offerings of the Watershed Arts Alliance, Sheltowee
Artisans and Cazalet Studios.
The Center for Rural Development
also features a variety of cultural events including
exhibits, concerts and Center Stage Productions. Seasonal
dramas are also presented at the Somerset Community
College Theatre.

Country Music fans will
appreciate a trip to Renfro Valley, Kentucky’s Country
Music Capital and home of the world famous Barn Dance
Show. While in that area head on up to Berea, The Folk
Arts & Crafts Capital of Kentucky. Downtown Berea is
full of arts & crafts shops. You can spend hours in
the new Kentucky Artisan Center & Café at Berea.

OUTDOOR
RECREATION

Visit our City & County
Parks for numerous outdoor recreation possibilities. Also
try one of our local Recreation Areas such as Fishing
Creek & Waitsboro for camping and picnic sites.

Pulaski County Park offers a
3 mile hiking trail plus a Physical Fitness/Nature Trail
and disc golf. The Corps of Engineers Visitor Center
features a short boardwalk trail & Somerset Community
College also has a nature trail.

|
Downtown Somerset is the
place to be on the 4th Saturday of each month, Apr. –
Oct. for the Somernites Cruise Car Show, our most popular
outdoor event. The weekend also includes other events
associated with the Cruise such as the Walmart Block Party
and the new Burnside Cruise Concert Series.

In Southern Pulaski County
stop by Burnside’s Cole Park home of their annual
LakeFest held in mid September.
|

|
Travel south on US 27, then
east on KY 90 to Cumberland Falls State Park, located in
the Daniel Boone National Forest. Known as the “Niagara
of the South”, this picturesque falls is well worth the
trip but there are also hiking trails, horseback riding
& a variety of other activities available in the area.
The Sheltowee Trace Outfitters located nearby offers
whitewater rafting, canoeing and wall climbing.

HISTORY
|
|
Take a driving tour through
Downtown Somerset, the Old Courthouse & various other
buildings from the past still remain. The Harvey’s Hill
area is regarded as one of the city’s most prestigious
neighborhoods and its original architectural character has
not been altered.

Civil War History buffs will
want to take the Mill Springs Battlefield Driving Tour
which begins at the 7-acre Mill Springs National Cemetery.
The driving tour has stops at important battle sites and
monuments, including Zollicoffer Park. We recommend that
you start your tour at the Visitors Center & Museum
located in Nancy. Here you can receive a driving tour
guide as well as an overview of the Battlefield. The last
two stops on the driving tour take you to Monticello to
the Mill Springs Park and Mill. Mill Springs features the
historic Brown-Lanier House as well as a restored working
grist mill.

Near historic Stearns, KY
visit the Big South Fork Scenic Railway where you can take
a nostalgic 16 mile round trip train ride. The trip
includes spectacular scenery as it descends into the gorge
before stopping at the Blue Heron Coal Mining Camp, a NPS
outdoor interpretive site. Another great stop in this area
is the Barthell Coal Camp. Barthell was the first Coal
Camp belonging to the Stearns Coal & Lumber Company.
